This is a contract position regularly scheduled for no more than 1450 hours in a calendar year. (Article 39.01)
Civilian Posting Reporting to the Cellblock Sergeant and/or the Courts Sergeant, this position is responsible for the administration and care of prisoners, ensuring prisoner escort and transportation needs, incarceration, care, and control of prisoners, arresting and processing of prisoners including searches, fingerprinting, photographing, and collecting DNA samples maintaining the safety and welfare of staff, judiciary, persons taking part/attending court proceedings, and premises. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SECURITY
Searches vehicles, cells, and prisoners, for drugs, weapons, means of escape, etc.
Provides instructions to (directs) prisoners and members of the public (ensuring compliance)
Provides emergency response in relation to court and DRPS facilities (i.e. Bomb threats, suspicious packages, power outages, etc.)
Monitors panic alarms for justices and Court administration offices
Performs crisis intervention (i.e. directs, maintains peace, mediates conflicts, etc.)
Maintains order and provides security in Court rooms
Assists officers in seizing evidence (i.e. clothing, drugs, weapons, etc.)
Facilitates safe movement of prisoners within Court and DRPS facilities
Facilitates phone calls between accused persons and various parties
Operates magnetometers to search for weapons
Releases prisoners on Judicial recognizes Provincial Offence Notices
DOCUMENTATION AND COMMUNICATION
Creates evidentiary reports (i.e. witness, use of force, property, arrest, etc.) in regards to safety, health, or welfare of prisoner
Creates, maintains, and updates prisoner tracking records for court facilities
Serves and swears legal documents (i.e. Summons, Subpoenas, Probation, Restitution, Drug Analysis Certificates, Prohibition orders, Notice of Intention, etc.)
Swears to Informations in court (i.e. summons, Peace Bonds, Informations, etc.)
Monitors cellblock equipment and supplies to ensure availability, security, and maintenance
Disseminates disclosure
Corresponds with Courthouse partners, as required
Receives and response telephone calls
CASE PREPARATION
Processes Court documents for the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and various Provincial/Federal statutes
Enters and verifies Crown Brief Informations
Organizes and enters charges into eJust
Liaises with Officers to ensure prisoners are booked, released, or sent to Bail with necessary documentation
Process Bail Hearings/Crown Briefs/PTA
Liaises between Judiciary, Crown counsel, Defence Counsel, Court officials, and supervisors regarding legal policies and procedures
TRANSPORTATION/ESCORTS
Performs secure transportation of prisoners to various courts and facilities
Performs safety checks clearing vehicles of security risks
Completes Prisoner Escort Form/ Return of Prisoner forms
Transports documents and property to various courts and facilities
IDENTIFICATION
Prepares daily attendance log/files verifying identity of accused persons
Photographs, documents, and records prisoner's injuries, reporting to OIC
Fingerprints and photographs accused, members, and Sex offenders
Collects DNA samples
Liaises with Warrants Coordinator Officer
OFFENDER MANAGEMENT/BAIL COURT
Prepares and disseminates bail Court Dockets
Liaises with Victim Witness Assistance Program
Liaises with court staff in obtaining Informations
Swears new Informations and Fail to Appear Informations before a Justice of the Peace
Performs criminal record checks
Completes bail supplementary reports and disseminates Bail Dockets and Informations releasing to
Records, Case Management, Cellblock, and CIB
OTHER
Provides instructions to (directs) prisoners and members of the public (ensuring compliance) Interactions require tact and diplomacy; interactions with wide range of public (accused, family, legal and judicial, counsel, many members of the team); must use diplomacy and de-escalation, timely crisis intervention to ensure compliance and safety with difficult and challenging situations; crises are timesensitive and typically cannot be referred to others
Job tasks are standardized with some variety (courts, cells, transport, and specialties). Decisions involve choice and application of correct or appropriate procedure. Judgment is required to identify and adjust known solutions to new or varied problems. Some problems must be resolved "on the spot" without opportunity for referral (emergent situations)

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Completion of secondary school including basic computer skills
Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate (must remain valid throughout hiring process)
Valid Class "G" driver's license
Minimum 1 years' with demonstrated experience interacting confidently, tactfully and diplomatically with all levels of the public, exercising judgment and critical thinking; proven English language (oral and written) skills
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills with multiple levels and sources for listening and comprehension
Well-developed time management, prioritization, multi-tasking and organizational skills
Proven ability to interact diplomatically, tactfully and confidentially with all levels of the service and the public
Well developed computer skills for alpha and numeric data entry with accuracy
Job related medical/physical abilities including vision, hearing, motor skills, upper body strength and cardiovascular endurance

Shift Work (flexibility required in hours and overtime)
Salary Level
This is a Level 7 position $41.08 per hour (2020-2024 Collective Agreement)
