The Toronto Transit Commission is currently accepting Summer Student applications for Summer 2022 - May 2, 2022 to August 27, 2022. We offer a wide range of entry level and specialty positions in various locations throughout the City of Toronto. Most positions involve working in a unionized environment. Some positions may involve working outdoors, while others may require specific licenses, skillsets and/or work experience.
The TTC operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Therefore, students must be flexible and willing to work shift work, as 80% of the positions available involve working various shifts (morning, afternoon, nights), which may include working weekends and holidays.
Eligibility
To be considered for summer student employment, you must be:
Eligible to work in Canada,
A full-time student, enrolled in full-time studies in the current Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 academic terms/year in either Grade 12 or a post-secondary institution; and
Returning to full-time studies in the Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 academic terms/year. Please note - You will be asked to provide proof that you meet these requirements prior to attending an interview. Carhouse Operator
Duties & Responsibilities
Sweep, dust and wash interior and exterior of streetcars.
Use of a variety of cleaning equipment necessary to do the work, such as mops, scrubbers, spray applicators, etc.
May be assigned special assignments throughout the summer which may include working at different locations; i.e. end of the line cleaning.
Requirements/Working Conditions
Requires a valid class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence.
Will be required to successfully complete TTC’s Rule Book & WHMIS training.
Safety footwear required (provided by the student).
Shifts
Shifts include days, afternoons, and nights with rotating or mid-week off days.
Serviceperson
Duties & Responsibilities
May involve janitorial work.
Cleaning interior and exterior of buses which involves mopping, washing, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping. Degumming, graffiti removal, cleaning of unsanitary buses, seat cleaning, etc., using a variety of specialized cleaning equipment.
May be required to operate steam cleaning equipment.
May be trained on scrubber/sweeper vehicle.
May involve checking and replenishing fluid levels and fuelling the buses.
May involve moving and parking buses in the garage before and after fuelling, oiling and related servicing operations; and may also involve driving buses for change-off purposes.
Requirements/Working Conditions
Requires a valid class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence - CZ driver's licence training will be provided by the TTC (on an as needed basis).
Exposure to dirty, dusty, noisy, wet conditions, and exhaust fumes.
Shifts
Shifts include days, afternoons, and nights with rotating or mid-week off days
Revenue Collector
Duties & Responsibilities
Performing a variety of duties for the collection and transport of uncounted revenue receipts from the Divisional offices and subway stations to the Patten building processing facility
Assist to collect and transport revenue receipts
Adhering to strict TTC operating procedures to carry out duties and responsibilities
Washing the truck when not assigned to a pick up route and reporting servicing or required repairs to the Supervisor
Requirements/Working Conditions
Requires a valid class "G" Ontario Driver's Licence - CZ driver's licence training will be provided by the TTC (on an as needed basis).
Exposure to dirty, dusty, noisy, wet conditions, and exhaust fumes.
Required to complete departmental training as it relates to the job responsibilities (i.e. procedures, safety and security practices, etc.).
Must pass a physical assessment; possess no physical restrictions that would limit lifting, bending or repeated motions
Considerable lifting of heavy weights and multiple stair climbing
