Blueprint - Engineering Outreach (utoronto.ca)

Our programming features a range of inspiring lectures, current research discussions, and hands-on activities. Through this content, students will explore the Engineering Design Process and use their skills and imaginations to create innovative solutions to real-world problems. Students who complete the program will leave with a fundamental understanding of the skills and knowledge required to pursue degrees and careers in STEM–specifically Engineering.

Blueprint is an academic enrichment program that was designed for highly motivated Black students currently in Grades 10 and 11 who are interested in careers in Science, Technology Engineering and Math with a strong interest in Engineering. The program includes four weeks of summer programming taking place from July 11 to August 5, 2022. In addition to year-long student engagement including monthly webinars and scheduled meet-upsstudents will have the opportunity to hear from researchers in the STEM-fields. This program will be held virtually again this year, with hopes of visiting on campus for an optional in-person meet up - public health regulations allowing.


Application Requirements

  • Open to current Grade 10 and 11 students in the 2021/22 school year

  • An unofficial high school transcript

  • Statement of interest outlining why you should be admitted to the program. (250-300 words) In order to be considered for the program, you must upload your statement by the application deadline – March 13, 2022.

Please note: Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit the name and contact information of a reference, who will be asked to speak on their character and academic performance.

Candidate Selection Process

The selection process for this program is competitive. Shortlisted candidates will be selected for a virtual interview. Students must identify as Black and be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Cost

FREE – all program costs will be covered by the University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. Any travel-associated costs will be the responsibility of the participant. Travel bursaries will be available for those that qualify for support.

The Blueprint Program is committed to creating an environment that is inclusive of all persons and treats all members of the community in an equitable manner.

Students who complete 80% of program activities will receive a certificate of completion and letter of reference.
